  For longest time after it was founded in 1928, the Museum in Struga had the status of biological institution, which researched on the natural world, which was it primer purpose. It was an institution for scientifically – research, and observing and collecting activity with morphological and systematic work, preparation and presenting of the biological material. At the first years of its existence the Museum, its department of natural science was conducted by a man who was a hunter, and a preparator for hunting (collecting ) of the natural material under the guidance of Nikola Nezlobinski.

   After the liberation and the museum’s reopening for public, they hired people from the craft, biologists and two preparators. The intense collection with complete scientific approach toward the material, resulted with fast renewing of the found of the museum. Today at the museum there are rich found of great value to the science. The modest entomology collection with only several mammals and raptors at the beginning today represents one vast complex where are presented the typical animal groups which live on this area surrounding Struga, and lately part of the botanical material ( mainly plants from the mud’s and water ) At the exhibition there are big number of small and bigger cabinets representing various kinds of animals and their typical habitats.

   The whole of the material represented is stashed into the museums depot is collected from the closest surrounding of the city, ( costal area and the deep waters of Ohrid Lake, the fields, and the mountains, Jablanica, Galicica, Karaorman as well as down the flow of the river Crni Drim ), by witch the museum it self gains the character of a local museum, but with an enormous number of specimens not typical for a smaller region. At the museum’s cabinets there are specimens that for longer time are non existing on the area as a result of the climate changes and the ecological conditions, but there are a great number of new specimens also thankfully to the same thing, which is a great contribution to the science it self.

   The activities of the people in charge of this dept. is focused towards realization of the biological agenda, but also on an activities in the educational manner, by granting access to the exponents to visitors an students, accompanied by qualified guidance during the visits. The team of this dept. continuously is in touch with the latest achievements in the science of biology and museology by taking place in a various congress, symposiums, sections etc. And also by organizing thematically exhibitions.

   The thematically exhibition “Ohrid lake and its characteristically life forms” is prepared and presented by this dept. in many cities in Macedonia ( Ohrid, Kicevo, Prilep, Strumica) and was warmly accepted and greeted by the public. The protection of the prepareted exhibits considering its organic nature is a greatly challenging for the employees in this dept. It is achieved by treating the exponents with special kind of chemical prep rates for protection from the museum bugs and all kind of other pets. This is performed by professional organizations and continuous monitoring of the same by the teams of the museum.
